Splore 2012

Added on Mar 16, 2012, Filed under Events | Music

Whoever said we didn't get any sunshine this summer clearly wasn't at Splore. Thousands of festival goers soaked up the biannual magic this year with a massive array of local and international music acts on display. It's definitely New Zealand's best kept festival secret!

The art and music-infused weekend at the seaside Tapapakanga Regional Park, about an hour from Downtown Auckland (near the firth of Thames looking east towards the Coromandel), saw friends shake along for a weekend of camping fun.

People of all ages enjoyed the family-friendly environment with kids and ravers shaking their tail feathers as one, even the elderly were jiving away like it was 1969. The tent city was a hive of activity as everyone enjoyed the stunning weather and the company of friendly neighbours and faces - a mini festival in it's own right!

Splore 2012 was highlighted by headline act - and the Queen of neo-soul - Erykah Badu, who treated the main stage with a performance to remember. With dozens of awesome acts, it’s hard to pick other favourites, but performances from the Cuban Brothers, Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes, Earl Gateshead, Nudge, Mo' Horizon, Spikey Tee and the Soul II Soul Sound System, Jazzie B and Caron Wheeler were definitely standouts.

There are many other highlights which come to mind, like the water hole, the art trail, and swimming in the ocean with friends while watching yet another awesome set being thrown down under the sweltering mid-afternoon heat.

Tiger Beer were there too, with our Tiger Bar atop of the hill with the best view in the house alongside the main stage - it was great to see so many of you enjoying yourself with us there...

Thanks for making our Splore unforgettable. 'Til next time, stay Splorsome!
